You will learn how to support people experiencing mental health issues. We will give you the practical skills to help, and the confidence and knowledge to have conversations around mental illness. Dr Cheryl Hawkins, an experienced psychiatrist, and an approved Mental Health First Aid England instructor, will lead these sessions to deepen your understanding of mental ill health and encourage you to make a difference to the people around you. MHFA England is the only provider of licensed Mental Health First Aid Instructor Training in England. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training teaches people how to identify the signs that someone may be experiencing a mental health issue. It will help you to understand them and offer initial help. It won’t teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you how to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening. You will also gain the skills to enable someone to find the support they might need. This could be through self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more. There are many of these within manual you get to take home after the training so you can continue to provide information to the people you support. What’s more, you’ll gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around you. Delivery is classroom based over two days, with time for breaks and lunch built in. There will be a mixture of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities Each session is built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn Everyone who completes the course gets: -A certificate of attendance to say you are a Mental Health First Aider -A manual to refer to whenever you need it -A quick reference card for the Mental Health First Aid action plan -A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support your own mental health Information about MHFA England and its courses can be found at mhfaengland.org Price includes all course materials.
